Michael Bird
Mike brings over 20 years pharmaceutical and aerospace industry experience to ILAA.
Presently, he is President and Owner of a calibration and consulting firm and
a Professor of Physics at the College of Lake County in northern Illinois.
Mike worked for 17 years as the Lead Engineer and Manager of Metrology at Abbott
Laboratories. He has presented and written numerous papers on Measurement
Uncertainty, Optical Calibrations, Analytical Metrology and Spectroscopy.
With the Lighthouse Training Group, he provided training courses for several corporations.
He previously worked at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory
as an instrument designer.
Mike received a Masters Degree in Instrumentation Physics from
the University of Utah and Bachelor of Science Degrees from Elmhurst College
in Physics and Math.
George Erl, P.E.
A Registered Professional Engineer, George brings 30 years facility design/construction
and equipment installation/validation experience to ILAA.
George's expertise includes laboratory programming, design, and construction; project engineering; facility, utility,
system, and lab equipment qualification; autoclave validation; and project management.
In private practice for 18 years, George provides consulting services specializing in laboratory programming,
facility design, facility construction management, equipment installation, and equipment validation.
George's professional affiliations include memberships in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE),
the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating,
and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
George received a Bachelor of Science Chemical Engineering degree from the Illinois Institute of
Technology, Chicago, IL.
Mark Grzeskowiak
Mark brings over 10 years automotive and pharmaceutical industry experience to ILAA.
Presently, he is President and Owner of a consulting firm.
Mark has held various positions throughout his
career including Technician, Metrologist, Calibration Supervisor, and Manager
of Engineering Services. He is a member of the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society.
Mark received a Bioengineering Degree from the University of Illinois.
Darrell Klein
Darrell brings 28 years pharmaceutical and process industry experience to ILAA.
Presently, he is President and Owner of a calibration consulting firm of 13 years.
During his 15 year tenure at at Searle Laboratories, Darrell served as Supervisor of
the Metrology Laboratory responsible for managing the laboratory and its staff as well as
its instrumentation design, modification, and maintenance.
He has presented papers and tutorials on calibration at the National Conference of Standards
Laboratories and the Measurement Science Conference.
Darrell is a member of the National
Conference of Standards Laboratories and the American Society for Quality.
He is a former member of the Precision Measurement Society where he served as Treasurer of the local
division. In addition, he is a former Secretary of the National PMA.
Darrell received a Biomedical Engineering degree from the University of Illinois.
Debbie Klein
Debbie brings 27 years of pharmaceutical industries, IT Infrastructure, and
Operations Leadership experience to ILAA. She has managed the development and validation of laboratory
software systems, participated in the development of Validation SOPs for
Computer Systems, conducted audits of software systems of 3rd party vendor
systems, and managed responses to FDA audits of computer systems.
Debbie received a Masters Degree in Computer Science from Northwestern University and Bachelor of Science
Degrees from Northwestern University in Computer Science and Biomedical
Engineering.
Nancy Mescher
An independent consultant since 1996, Nancy brings 24 years pharmaceutical
and process industry experience to ILAA.
Nancy's previous positions include Biochemistry Research Associate,
Analytical Chemist, and High School Physics instructor. She
was an academic advisor and religious education instructor.
She has served on the board of Directors of the Alliance for Character in Education
Nancy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences and Chemistry
from Northern Illinois University and has pursued postgraduate coursework at the
Illinois Institute of Technology.
